Louden Tribe Mission.
Housing affordability is one of the biggest challenges that our community and tribal members face. This has been recognized in our Strategic Planning as a top priority, and to address this, the Tribe has built nine homes in Galena since 2021; together with a pre-existing property, are currently part of our Affordable Housing Program.
Despite this being a big step forward in addressing our housing shortage and affordability, it is far from being enough. For this, Louden is applying in January 2026 for $5,000,000 from the HUD’s IHBG Competitive grants, to build additional and highly needed homes for the Affordable Housing Programs. The Tribe implements all its housing related activities through the Housing Department.
Our Properties
Housing is one of the top priorities for Louden. Following our Strategic Planning, Louden has built ten homes in Galena for their Affordable Housing Program since 2021, which adds up to one previously owned unit.
These homes are mostly used as affordable rentals, but we are working on a future Path To Ownership Program in a near future.

Eligibility
Many people think that they are not eligible to Louden’s housing programs, while in many cases this is not true. The income limits are higher than most people expect, and you don’t even need to be a Louden Tribal Member!
