Our name is Louden Tribe!
Our Tribal Constitution from 1996 establishes
“ARTICLE l -NAME
The name of this organization shall be the Louden Tribe.”
However, for a variety of reasons, our tribe was also known as “Galena Village”, “Louden Village”, “Louden Tribal Council”, “Native Village of Galena”, etc.
In order to fully align with our Constitution, to preserve our identity and to avoid any confusion, in the Summer of 2023 the Tribal Council decided to move forward with updating our official name with the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Federal Government. This changed was made effective in January 2024, and published in the latest Federal Register’s Indian Entities Recognized by and Eligible To Receive Services From the United States Bureau of Indian Affairs.
Finally, the Constitution also mentions the following
“ARTICLE4- GOVERNING BODY
The governing body of the Louden Tribe shall be the Louden Tribal Council, also referred to as the Council or Tribal Council in this Constitution. The Council shall represent the Tribe and shall exercise the powers of the tribe cited in this Constitution, unless otherwise reserved to the tribal members…”
