Transportation

Program overview

Louden Tribe has an existing program agreement with FHWA who administers the funds that the tribes receive to implement their Transportation program. With these funds, we can provide the community with upgrading/repairing/constructing transportation-related facilities.

With the results from the past two Annual Public Transportation meetings, the community identified the priorities for Galena. These priorities are, but not limited, to the Erosion Project, Dike Restoration Project, and Dust control. We heavily recommend the community to attend these annual meetings because the community’s opinions matter!

Erosion Control

In partnership with the State of Alaska, United States Army Corps of Engineers, Doyon, Gana-A’Yoo, and the City of Galena, the Tribe is attempting to finish armoring the bank along Galena to protect it from the Yukon.

Dike Restoration Project

Since the construction of the Dike in the 1950’s, it has lost a exponential amount of material from the surface. We are working on partnering with the State of Alaska to secure the funds to raise the dike to its original elevation.

Dust Control Project 2024

Last year, Louden Tribe partnered with the State of Alaska to do a pilot project for dust control using a new, polymer-based dust palliative called DUSTPODS. Based on the results, Louden Tribal Council directed the Transportation Department to switch over from Calcium Chloride to DUSTPODS.
